Swine Flu Prevention at Church, Work & Home
Friday, November 13th, 2009It is always helpful to use godly wisdom to avoid sickness. A few tips to use at church, home and work to avoid swine flu (H1N1) and colds are:
- Avoid shaking hands when greeting others and avoid holding hands during prayer. Don’t think of precaution as an insult, but as a gesture of love to protect others and yourself from sicknesses that can be life threatening for some. Now is a good time for the church to come up with a different form of greeting, perhaps a bow.
- Make sure communion is handled properly to avoid the spread of swine flu and colds. You want separately wrapped communion wafers and small individual wine cups.
- Wash hands frequently. Carry anti-bacterial or alcohol-based wipes when out.
- Pass up food, such as bagels or donuts, at worksites that have been left sitting out.
- Avoid small snacks, such as peanuts and pretzels, that are shared at parties and holiday gatherings.
- Wipe work areas (desk, computer, phone, etc.) frequently with alcohol-based wipes.
- Wipe phones in conference rooms or any public setting with alcohol-based wipes before using.
- Stay home if sick to avoid risking the health of co-workers and church members.
- Do not share personal items, such as makeup, with friends or relatives.
- Wipe home phones, remote controls and doorknobs frequently.
- Teach children to wash hands often, especially before eating and after play and bathroom visits.
- Keep young children from developing a habit of thumb-sucking and putting hands in mouth.
